Etude House Skin Mal:Gem Moist Toner

I recently decided to try out another toner. I bought the Etude House Skin Mal:Gem Moist Toner costs US$14.40 at their website. Etude House claims that the: hypoallergenic toner promotes clean, clear and pure complexion with a moisturising and pore cleansing formula.

The packaging is really lovely. It’s recycled and has a clean but cute design. On the box it has pictures of perhaps suggestions to use this other than a toner. Seemingly you can put this into eye or face masks or use as a spray. As you’ll see below, the added glycerin makes me think of MAC’s Fix+. This could make a refreshing face mist after or before makeup, and just during a hot day!

The bottle itself is 250mL so it will last a long time. If used 2x a day, probably 6 months. It’s a plastic bottle with a frosted glass look. So at least it won’t break easily but still looks fancy! It’s a very simple and clean design but still has a cute umbrella and rain drops. The lid is a screw top and just has a plastic rimmed opening at the top so not too much product with pour out.

Ingredients:

Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Lemon Fruit Extract, Orange Fruit Extract, Vaccinium Myrtillus (European Blueberry) Fruit/Leaf Extract, Sugar Maple Extract, Sugar Cane Extract, Panthenol, Orchid Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Camellia Japonica Leaf Extract, Opuntia Coccinellifera (Cactus) Fruit Extract, Citrus Unshiu (Satsuma Mandarin) Peel Extract, Ethylhexyglycerin, Peg-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Peg-8, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol (Preservative), Fragrance

It only has one acne irritant according to CosDNA which I’ve put in bold. But your skin may vary and find other ingredients irritating. It’s jam packed full of natural extracts such as lemon, orange, satsuma mandarin, blueberry, orchid, camellia leaves (antioxidants) and cactus. I’m not sure what the sugar maple and sugar cane add to the mix but it is interesting to see them there too. Overall, a lot of moisturising and pore cleaning/skin balancing ingredients!

The scarier sounding chemicals are mostly there to keep everything liquid and nice so don’t worry about those unless you have a specific reaction to them.

My opinion: The liquid is not watery like most toners. It is serum-like in thickness. It coats the skin very easily and only a tiny amount needs to be used at a time. It smells like lemonade which is pleasant to me. The scent fades fairly quickly and is not overpowering. If you apply too much it will be sticky and will take awhile to dry. I’ve been using this when I’ve needed extra moisture, like after a long day in the air-con or dry air, or after I was locked out on a hot day in the sun. It helped in the healing process of my upset skin just for the amount of moisturising ingredients it has! Used sparingly and carefully I think it can be beneficial if you’re lacking moisture! I would recommend for dry skin.
